DAVEY LEGEND
BANG! — SINGLE OUT NOW

AFTER RELOCATING FROM REDDING, CA, LA-BASED ARTIST AND GEN Z DIGITAL NATIVE, DAVEY LEGEND, STRUGGLES WITH HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH THE POST-WEB 2.0 WORLD. LIKE MANY OF HIS PEERS, THE FABRIC OF DAVEY’S LIFE IS WOVEN WITH MEMES, MODERN TECHNOLOGIES, AND GOOD OLD-FASHIONED PLANT-BASED PROBLEMS. EVEN HIS REAL-LIFE RELATIONSHIPS ARE DEEPLY ENMESHED IN INTERFACES AND SOCIAL MEDIA-CAST MORES RESULTING IN A COMPLICATED DYNAMIC BETWEEN THE REAL WORLD, HIS IMAGINATION, AND THE DIGITAL WORLDS HE INHABITS.

HIDING BEHIND A QUICK JOKE, SOME BRAINROT, AND A SMILE, DAVEY COPES BY CREATING HIS OWN STORIES FULL OF SINCERITY, FRAGILITY, JOY, AND INTROSPECTION.

IT ALL COMES TO LIFE THROUGH DAVEY'S SELF-DESCRIBED “BING BONG BOING” MUSIC, WHICH FEATURES CHARACTERS OF HIS OWN DESIGN THAT PERSONIFY HIS DEMONS, ANXIETIES, AND INNER MONOLOGUE.

davey legend’s newest single, “bang!”, is his third in almost as many months this year. written roughly four years ago, davey wrote the demo for “bang!” upon his return to redding, ca after a long road trip to the southwest USA, where he played shows and traded producing/song-writing services in exchange for couches to crash on.

on his trip south, davey found himself in a constant “rockstar” cycle of waking up, smoking, drinking, partying, sleepless nights working on music, and constantly burning the candle at every end. somewhere along the way, he realized that he was not in a good place mentally - stuck in a cycle of negative self-talk and suicidal ideation.

encouraged by therapy and support from friends and family, davey found peace through music. he used writing and composing as a tool to confront his own thoughts - to bring them into the light, so they could be seen and processed in a healthy way.

to davey, exposing and engaging with his own demons felt like “waking up”. only through this process could he really see life’s beauty for what it was and could be. the ticking clock signifies the terror he felt before he could find help, as he was twisting towards a pivotal moment that he felt increasingly helpless to prevent.

it was another year before davey found the demo again on writing trip to los angeles, and then another year again before the song saw the light of day, when he and his team began putting the new record together. davey borrows bits and pieces from dem, midwest emo, and Top 40-pop - inspired by artists like porter robinson, 21 pilots, fred again…, and imogen heap.
